A warm welcome awaits you at the Award-Winning 5 Star Shipwright Inn which is centrally located in the historic district of Olde Charlottetown.
Charlottettown, the birthplace of Confederation, is where Canada was actually formed and the area is rich in both history and tradition. Prince Edward Island is Canada's smallest and greenest province. The "Gentle Island" is best known for the vivid colours of its gently rolling landscape, miles of sandy beaches and its deep red soil and was made famous through the book "Anne of Green Gables" written by Lucy Maud Montgomery.
The Shipwright Inn has been rated as the "Best Bed and Breakfast on PEI" and one of the "Top Ten B&B's" in Canada by Frommer's Travel Guides. Other distinctions include AAA/CAA 3 Diamond approval and TripAdvisor Hall of Fame Member 2015.
The Canadian Register of Historic Places states that " The Shipwright Inn is a fine and well preserved example of the Maritime Vernacular Cottage style and plays an important role in maintaining the heritage ambiance of the streetscape. "
This elegant Victorian house built in 1865 was originally the home of Scottish shipbuilder, James Phillips Douse. Now as an Inn, it respects its ship building heritage by emphasizing a nautical theme. Features include numerous original period antiques and artwork which pay homage to the building's association with the Island's shipbuilding past.
With nine uniquely decorated rooms, all with full private bathrooms, overhead fans and air conditioner units, the Inn can accommodate up to 25 guests and is open year round. The nine rooms include three executive suites with double ultra-air massage tubs and a self contained apartment with private entry and fully fitted kitchen. The Inn has both the luxury of off street parking as well as beautiful English gardens and decking.
In addition to the guest rooms there is a large open dining room, a parlor, games room with piano and a business centre. Free WIFI is available to all guests along with Internet access in their rooms and cable TV with 50 channels.
As a Breakfast Inn we offer a full four course breakfast (if you have the appetite) which is served in our dining room and prepared by our resident Chef. Breakfast includes daily fresh baked goods and PEI preserves, We have our own unique blend of coffee or guests can choose from a selection of teas.
