This Month's Travel Articles

When we travel, we report back to you on the places we see and the people we meet - this month, we cover Downtown Scottsdale in the greater Phoenix area - a beautiful, upscale Southwestern town which combines art, culture, history, and a vibrant new "waterfront".

We also have a number of travelers, writers and innkeepers who send us their takes on great places for gay and lesbian travelers to visit.

This month, we have six great articles:

Scottsdale from the Air

Purple Roofs Travels: Scottsdale, the Beverly Hills of Phoenix

Scottsdale sits about 15 minutes east of downtown Phoenix. With a historic downtown blended with a vibrant, modern arts, shopping, and culture district, Scottsdale offers a great walking experience, especially in the cooler months.

And while Scottsdale is far from a gay mecca, it even has its own gay bar, tucked away behind all the shopping. But more on that later.

Stunning Edinburgh
By Ian Hamilton, Kew House

Born and bred in Edinburgh and having travelled the world extensively makes you appreciate what is best about this city as a tourist destination.

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and is unique within the British Isles in many ways. For most people, its uniqueness is the stunning castle, over 1,000 years old adorning a large rock bang in the city centre.

Caernarfon: A Medieval Wonder
By Andy Banner-Price, Plas Dinas Country House, Caernarfon, Wales

Caernarfon is one of those areas that offers everything all in one place…you can lie on a long sandy beach, yet turn round and see the majestic horizon of mountain views; you can have a cream tea in the sunshine in a cosmopolitan cobbled stone square overlooked by an imposing Medieval castle, yet be in snow capped stunning mountains within 15 minutes.

Lesbian Friendly Key West
By Heather, Pearl's Rainbow, Key West, Florida

Warm sunshine, cool breezes, crystal waters, historic architecture, colorful culture . . . what foreign, tropical island is this?  Surprise – it’s not foreign at all (at least not in the conventional sense).

It’s Key West, America’s drive-to (or fly-to) Caribbean island, long known for its welcoming, come-as-you-are attitude and superlative temperate weather.

Mile-High Bisbee Arizona Has Something for Everyone
By Bob Klein, Doublejack Guest House, Bisbee, Arizona

Looking for an inexpensive yet fabulous weekend getaway?  Tucson Magazine named Bisbee, Arizona “Best Place to Get out of Town” for 2009.

Bisbee is a friendly and accepting community which offers everything from fine dining to old-west saloons, mining history, Victorian architecture, great hiking and world-class birding opportunities.

Traveling in Our Fabulous World
Luxury at the Orchard in Lawson, Missouri
By Donald Pile & Ray Williams, Gay Travelers

We all love to hit the resort cities but sometimes it is great getting away from it all and traveling someplace where you can relax and visit the quiet sounds of an area.  We recently stayed at the Orchard Inn Bed and Breakfast in Lawson, Missouri. Located about 40 miles north of downtown Kansas City, it is the perfect place to stay for a few days to unwind from the hustle-bustle of city life.
