We visited San Diego at the end of 2006. See our San Diego accommodations page here. It's almost always sunny in San Diego, or so we're told. but we hit a bit of rain. Nevertheless, it's a great city. We'll cover several places in the Greater San Diego area, including the downtown core, the gay Hillcrest area, Little Italy, Old Town San Diego, and Solana Beach.
Downtown San Diego is very walkable, and is divided into several districts. Right in the center of the downtown core is one of our favorite malls anywhere - Horton Plaza, a multi-level, outdoor mall with not just one but two Starbucks!
Horton Plaza also provides free wheelchairs, perfect for folks who need a little assistance getting around this large, multi-level mall.
This is a great mall to roam on a sunny day, filled with fanciful architecture and a great mix of shops. The mall is on the edge of the Gaslamp Quarter, a cute shopping, dining and entertainment district with many bars (mostly if not all straight/mainstream).
