Now we're gonna clue you into one of our favorite places in the whole world. Walnut Creek, once ranchland east of San Francisco and one of the early crossroads of the area, has morphed over time into a truly mature, wonderful city and a destination in its own right.

It's the shopping hub of Contra Costa county in the East Bay, and is easily accessible from San Francisco via the Pittsburg/Antioch BART line for $4.25 a person each way. The trip is direct - no changing trains - and takes about 35 minutes.

There's a free shuttle to downtown from the BART station (Bus 104), or you can walk there in 15 minutes through the pleasant Main Street downtown.
