COZY LAKE COTTAGE WITHIN SLEEPING BEAR DUNES IN NORTHWESTERN MICHIGAN
The cottage is nicely situated with wooded Lakeshore (Lake Michigan) land behind us and across Long Lake, and just 1/2 an hour from Traverse City. We are blessed with a quiet Lake and quiet neighbors, with enough trees to afford a lot of privacy.
The cottage has one bedroom with a queen bed and good storage space. There is a small extra sleeping room, which we call the Nest. It is, literally, the size of a queen sized bed and has a view of the lake. This cottage is the perfect size for a small family, a couple, or 2-4 good friends. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are an open floor plan, anchored at one end by a fireplace for heat and ambience and on the other end by a sliding glass door and windows overlooking the lake. The cottage is supplied by perfectly good well water, but for taste we recommend that visitors bring bottled water.
Ursa Minor Vacation Rental Cottagecan be rented from early spring through late fall. Our fully equipped kitchen includes a microwave, blender, coffee maker, mixer and toaster oven, but no dishwasher or disposer. Bed linens and pillows are provided. For summer use, we have a rowboat and accessories, lawn chairs, and a Weber Grill. Charcoal is provided. We also provide a telephone, washer/dryer, radio/CD player, VCR and a small TV. If you prefer not to cook, the locally famous Manitou Restaurant is within a 3/4 mile walk.
No smoking is permitted in the cottage. Dogs are welcome, with the expectation that the owner cleans up after them and assumes responsibility for the cost of any damage. Unfortunately, cats are not permitted, due to cat allergies.
You will need to bring towels, a flashlight ( if arriving by night), food for your visit, and a phone card for long distance calls. Only some cell phones will work in our area at this time. Guests are responsible for cleaning the cottage. We have a manager, who will check in on Sundays, wash the sheets and pick up the keys. We have no garbage service, so your garbage must be carried away with you when you leave.0
Having come to the area ourselves for over 20 years, we still don't feel at a loss for new things to explore. Within a 15 minute radius there are restaurants, shopping, and art galleries in the quaint towns of Empire, Glen Arbor, Honor, Beulah, or Frankfort. Golfing and miniature golfing abound. Honor boasts one of the last remaining Drive-In movie theaters, The Cherry Bowl Drive In Theatre, which will transport you right back to the 50's.
Within the park, there are dozens of trails and miles of shoreline, plus a very good Visitors Center with summer programs. The park's Pierce Stocking Trail is a 5 mile driving loop, which includes stunning vistas and many deer sightings. For the boater or swimmer there are 5 lakes besides our own in the area. Numerous biking trails exist. There is canoeing kayaking, and tubing on the Platte or Betsie Rivers.
It is only 1/2 hour to the larger Traverse City or to a performance at the internationally famous Interlochen Academy for the Performing Arts. And, for those who seek solitude for hiking, exploring or birding, there are endless possibilities.

Cancellations:
Please understand that cancellations are difficult for us. We ask that you give us as much notice as possible if you need to cancel. We will make every attempt to reschedule you to a time that works for both parties.
Cancellation with MORE than 3 weeks notice: all but $125 of the deposit is returned.
Cancellation with THREE WEEKS or LESS notice: the entire deposit is non-refundable.
