Victorian sea captain’s home turned into a bed and breakfast in Wellfleet on Cape Cod, just 15 minutes from clubs and bars in downtown Provincetown, MA.

The house was built in 1871 by Captain Freeman Atkins Snow (born Nov. 7, 1838) for less than $4,000.00. A private residence for over a hundred years, the house has been operated as a Bed & Breakfast since the late 1980's. In November of 1999 the house was purchased by the current owners, Adam Levinson and Janet Loewenstein, who renovated and redecorated the house with both modern conveniences and old-fashioned charm.

The Stone Lion Inn offers three types of accommodations for our guests.

BED & BREAKFAST

The house has three cozy guest rooms all with queen size beds and private baths. Each room is named for a neighborhood in Brooklyn, where the innkeepers either lived or worked.

The Park Slope and Greenpoint rooms have bathrooms with showers; if you prefer an old-fashioned claw foot tub (with shower), please request our Clinton Hill room which also has a private deck for reading and catching the morning sun. All guest rooms are located on the second floor of the house.

Guests in the house are treated to our full breakfast including fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, hot beverages, juice, homemade pastries and a hot dish prepared every morning. Vegetarians are easily and happily accommodated, please just let us know.

In addition to their rooms, our guests are welcome to make themselves at home in our comfortably furnished living room. There you will find a variety of games and puzzles, a television & VCR plus a collection of video tapes for viewing. We also have books of local history, plus a variety of fiction and non-fiction to enjoy during your stay and a swap library in case you finish your book and need another to take with you.

APARTMENT

Our apartment has its own entrance through the back courtyard. It is equipped with a small studio kitchen (refrigerator, sink, microwave, toaster oven, coffee make and two-burner buffet range plus a variety of pots & pans). There is a queen size bed on the upper level accessed by a circular staircase. In addition to the kitchen described above, the lower level has a comfortable living space and a large bath/dressing room. The apartment is also equipped with its own heat and telephone.

COTTAGE

"Ocean’s Favorite", named for Captain Snow’s ship, is our little retreat for couples traveling together or for a family with children. The ground floor has a dining room, living room with cable television & VCR, tiled kitchen and full bathroom. Upstairs are three bedrooms, two with queen- size beds, one with a twin bed plus trundle. There is a deck out back with a charcoal grill and picnic table, a jungle gym for the kids and an outdoor shower. If the evenings get cool, the cottage is equipped with its own heating system to keep you toasty warm.

We provide dishes, pots and pans, pillows, blankets and bed pads. Please bring your own linens & towels for your stay in the cottage.

All of our guests will enjoy the outdoor spaces around our property including a wisteria-covered gazebo, fishponds, fountains and hammock.
