" GAY FRIENDLY TUSCAN BED & BREAKFAST "
The farmhouse and its outhouse have large rooms of varying shapes and sizes. Each room has a bathroom and its own private entrance. Guests have access to the communal rooms which are also suitable for meetings and workshops. Neo-Rennaissance beds, gilded bronze sconces, lamps of Murano crystal, and relics of exotic voyages mix with contemporary works of art by young artists. The Quercia Rossa Country House Bed & Breakfast was renovated in the classic Tuscan architectural style with environmentally-friendly materials. There is a new private swimming pool, for the exclusive use of guests. The property is located in a panoramic position, with the Tyrrehnian Sea to the south, and a view of the plains of Marsiliana, Mount Argentario and in the distance the profiles of the islands of Giglio and Montecristo and, on clearer days the mountains of Corsica. Oak trees, cypress trees, olive trees, vineyards and Mediterranean vegetation surround the fields of wheat and centuries-old olive groves, which belonged to the Friars of Vallombrosa in the Middle Ages. At the center of the property is a small lake where one can spot porcupines, deer, wild boar, turtles, hares, badgers, pheasants and many other animals. Dirt roads and trails that pass by farms and wind through the country arrive all the way to Marsiliana, Manciano and Montemerano, ideal for long walks though countryside rich with herbs and plants used as natural remedies by the locals. The location at the center of Maremma makes the Quercia Rossa a base for a variety of activities, including places of interest for lovers of nature, wine and food, and history and archaeology. First of all, the closeness of the natural cascades of Saturnia (14 km) offers guests the chance to spend time relaxing with massages, and thermal cures and baths. The water of Saturnia has stimulating and healthy effects on the skin, the respiratory system, and on muscles and bones. Lovers of the sea and of diving can reach the beaches of Capalbio, Argentario and Uccellina, which can be seen through the hills, in approximately 20 minutes by car. Nature lovers choose between birdwatching in the WWF oasis of Orbetello and the Lake of Burano, riding on horseback or taking a canoe down the Ombrone river in the Uccellina Natural Park, or ambushing a herd of deers in the Monte Labbro Park. Near the Farmhouse one can take a bath in the Albegna river, or explore, taking the old paths through the woods. Or visit the Etruscan tombs of Sovana, the Roman city of Cosa and the sites of the 'slave' villa of Settefinestre and the home of the Etruscan Ghiaccio Forte. Enter the medieval towns of Pitigliano, Sorano, Capalbio with its Garden of Tarocchi, Montemerano, Magliano, Manciano with the nearby Roman city of Statonia, and Saturnia with its dotted necropoles. All are within 15-20 kilometers of the Quercia Rossa Country House B&B. The numerous festivals and food fairs and the Wine Festivals of Manciano and Scansano offer a wealth of Tuscan flavors to experience and explore.
