Parkside House Bed and Breakfast has undergone twelve years of careful restoration, bringing guests all the character and charm of a 19th Century home blended with the conveniences and comforts of the 21st century.

"It's been a 12 year process of renovating this house," Chris says. "Hard work, stripping wallpaper, ripping up carpets, getting rid of drop ceilings." While reversing years of previous updates to let the home's old soul to shine through, Chris has also flawlessly blended the old and the new. New windows and insulation throughout our Buffalo bed and breakfast bring a level of comfort unknown to the home's original owners.

The kitchen and bathrooms showcase this mix of old and new the best - both rooms are a perfect balance - you'll enjoy the warmth and feel you'd expect from a place with the name The Parkside House and the luxurious, cleverly incorporated comforts of modern facilities.

But even with all the renovations, our Buffalo accommodations show off their imperfections - a coal scuttle dropped on the hardwood floor back in the 1910s. Or a 1940s Christmas tree that toppled over and put a ding in the chestnut molding. "I love the small irregularities," Chris says. "They give a lot of character to the house."

That history doesn't stop at the front door. The Parkside House B&B's neighborhood is a hidden gem - the homes are architecturally varied, spaced apart. There's a city feeling, but also a lot of privacy.

There are many great things to do close-by, includng:

• The Burchfield-Penney Art Center, in a brand-new facility, is dedicated to the art/culture of Western New York, with a huge collection of works by Charles E. Burchfield.
• Darwin Martin House,designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
• The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, a classical Revival building that was part of the 1901 Pan American Exposition.
• Sheas Theatre: Playhouses that stage high-quality productions at affordable prices.
• In spring and summer, the Bisons AAA baseball team competes in one of the nation's most attractive minor league ballparks.

Chris has lived and travelled all over the the world, but fell in love with this home and the city of Buffalo. Frederick Law Olmsted designed Parkside neighborhood. "Being close to the Zoo, the Park, and all the art galleries. The neighborhood has a great feeling; it's a really wonderful neighborhood to live in. I don't think I'd live anywhere else in Buffalo."
