Traveling in Our Fabulous World Book Review:
But the Show Went On, by Robert Julian

By Donald Pile & Ray Williams, Gay Travelers

Woodland Park, ColoradoA wonderful new book recently came out and it is a “MUST READ” for everyone.

Set in the period of 1987 to 1988, the author Robert Julian relates to the reader the different aspects of his life during that period.

He was a writer in San Francisco at the time and  interviewed many celebrities including Wayland Flowers, Rita Mae Brown, Peggy Lee, Donovan, Yuma Sumac, Carol Channing, Jim Bailey, Liza Minnelli and Cheryl Crane (Lana Turners’s daughter) to name just a few.

Robert is a brilliant writer.  His first book, “Postcards from Palm Springs” was a riveting true life saga  about living in Palm Springs.  It was fun, funny, bitchy and intriguing. And is scandalous! It was a best seller.  If you have not read his first book, by all means get a copy!

Robert’s second book, “But the Show Went On” is one man’s marvelous journey thru life, dealing with other people, events and places where he visited.  He puts the readers in his shoes and you will think that you are actually right there.

From his travels to New Orleans, his cruises and Brazil, he makes the reader feel that they are traveling with him.  The author is very accommodating to each of the people that he interviewed however he is a realist and knows the flaws in many of them.

At the end of each chapter, he writes a “backstory” which is an update on the person he interviewed.  This is gay “personal” history at it’s finest!  However, the writing in his book is as relevant  today as it was back in 1987-1988.

This book will make you laugh and make you think about your own life.  You can see where author himself has changed and evolved (for the better) over the years.

The author is a very intelligent person who, like most intelligent people, is forever changing.  Everyone should change as they go thru life.  Two of the best quotes from the author are “It really is better to instigate change in your life than wait for it to force itself on you” and “no matter how bad things get, you have to get through them somehow.”

Robert Julian and his life partner now reside in Palm Springs, California.  Reader can visit the book’s website www.buttheshowwenton.com.  Now, we cant wait for his next book to come out!

Always remember to have fun when traveling, meet new people and talk to everyone!
