Built in 1928, Monthaven Apartments are a classic example of the small apartment buildings constructed in the early part of this century throughout the Mid-South. It is constructed of red brick with colored brick details. The front door opens onto a central hall and stairway with two 2 bedroom apartments on each the first and second floors. All apartments were originally designed as 1 bedroom apartments with a central dining room. However, during the Great Depression, rent from the one bedroom apartments was no longer sufficient to cover the mortgage. As a result, the dining rooms were scuttled and the apartments were converted into 2 bedroom units. The old wall lines are still apparent in several places on the original hardwood floors.

After being neglected and abused, literally for decades, by disinterested landlords and uncaring tenants, the building was purchased in April of 2000. She is responding beautifully to the rehab and TLC which she has received since that time.

When first discovered by the current owner in the Spring of 2000, Monthaven's front yard was a litter strewn plot of weeds. Though still in its infancy, the front garden has progressed beautifully since then. Many neighbors and tourists alike have stopped by to offer words of gratitude and encouragement as the garden has evolved. Though small and intimate, the garden offers tranquility and invites a further and unhurried study.

The bedrooms at Monthaven are furnished to provide a sense of home, warmth and security. They are cozy yet spacious enough to be comfortable when a bit of privacy is desired.....for whatever reason. Linens are exchanged weekly should your stay exceed 7 days.

Furnished with large overstuffed furniture, the den is comfort incarnate. Whether cuddling with a loved one, lazing the night away with a good book, or settling down to watch a classic film, you will enjoy doing it in this room. Unlike other rentals you might run into, we are not offering a museum experience at Monthaven. This room is meant to be lived in.

The kitchens have been recently remodeled and offer all of the amenities of home including dishwasher and microwave. They are 'eat in' kitchens and are fully appointed and self-catering. This affords untold savings over eating out or simply offers the possibility of a romantic evening staying in. While basic condiments are provided, guests are responsible for supplying their own dining needs.
