Years ago, we fell in love with Belize - in all of her human and biological diversity - and decided to make the move from Baltimore to Belize. We started looking for the perfect place to make our home, and We then began to look for a small piece of paradise and foundfinally found this wonderful fifty acres in the beautiful Cayo district of Belize.
Over the next ten years, we worked on the property, as we decided what to do with is. We finally decided to make it into a small nature reserve and bird sanctuary, along with an eco-friendly jungle lodge Still wanting to remain productive, we opted to open our lodge amidstin our magnificent jungle setting. After four more years of hard work, we've accomplished our goal, and we're ready to share this wonderful place with visitors0.

At the Macaw Bank Jungle Lodge, we practice sustainable tourism:
we educate and train our local employees in best green practices
we compost our organic waste, and use very limited, biodegradeable pesticides on our grounds
we use electricity provided by solar power
we recycle all glass bottles and jars, and most plastics
we line dry our linens instead of using electricity
we're helping to create cottage industry in furniture making
we're helping to replant indigenous hardwoods
we grow our own organic fruits and vegetables, and use localy sourced produce wherever possible
we use biodegradable laundry detergents
we limit our water waste
we bring jobs to the community by outsourcing tours
we help the local community with waste management
we promote local artisans with on-site exhibits
we keep most of the property natural to insure wildlife habitat
