Welcome to Puerto Rico's Las Piedras (The Rocks), an easy-going, relaxed and very comfortable three bedroom/four bedroom oceanfront beach home on one of the most dramatic places on Vieques Island - perched above an unusual large outcrop of volcanic rock, the house incorporates the existing boulders and panoramic ocean views.
Our Caribbean vacation rental sits on the north side of the island, and offers breathtaking views of Puerto Rico, Culebra, and on a clear day, St. Thomas.
A well-known New York loft designer built Las Piedras as his own dream home. Every part of our Caribbean home is built to take advantage of the fantastic views, and designed and to best catch the cooling ocean breezes. Then the house was surrounded with tropical palm trees, so you feel as if you are being fanned from every angle.
The upper floor's open plan flows from living room to dining area to kitchen with vaulted ceilings and fantastic views. The dining area is surrounded by windows on three sides, and is next to the fully equipped kitchen (complete with refrigerator/freezer and icemaker with a door dispenser, range, microwave, blender, coffeemaker, dishwasher and trash compacter).
This wide-open, large upper level has nine-foot tall glass doors across the entire length of the house, which leads out to a large waterfront deck. There's also a large bathroom on this floor with a four person tub.
Downstairs offers a comfortable den that leads to a covered deck and our tropical pool. There are also two large bedrooms on this level. The Master Bedroom has a California king-size platform bed and a master bath. The second bedroom has two queen beds and a/c. There's also a one-of-a-kind bathroom built into the existing stone across the hall. The crashing waves outside will literally lull you to sleep.
On the ground floor, there's a a private bedroom with its own full bathroom. Built in and around huge rocks, this bedroom is separate from the rest of the house, and has a queen bed and an outdoor stairway that leads upstairs to the pool and den. Please note, this bedroom is never rented separately.
Windows throughout our Vieques vacation rental home are screened, and there are fans in every room.
One of the best features at Las Piedras is our wonderful pool. Surrounded by decks and dramatically cantilevered over the surf, you'll feel as if you're floating in the ocean itself. It's the perfect spot to relax at any time - from the early morning sun to the midnight show of stars.
And you won't want to miss the unbelieveably beautiful sky as the setting sun lights up the billowing clouds surrounding El Yunque, the rain forest on the main island eight miles away (where the fresh water that supplies Vieques comes from).
The sandy swimming beach and some of the best snorkeling on Vieques are less than a dozen yards away and some of the best surfing on the island is just down the beach.
