"QUIET, SERENE, FUN AT POOL"

Situated on the one acre of ground that Sarah Kirby purchased from her parents, Willard and Maria Gill, in December 1887 for $100, the home offers eight guest rooms, five fireplaces (three of which are in guest rooms), and several common rooms.

The home is graced with quarter-sawn oak woodwork and panels, prismed windows, tall ceilings with gently curved moldings, a six sided tower, wrap-around front porch and beautiful gardens.
Over the bridge and around the corner 1.5 miles is the heart of downtown Saugatuck, and less than a mile down our street is beautiful Lake Michigan.

You're close enough to take in everything the town has to offer, yet far enough to enjoy some privacy. Our serene surroundings will refresh your senses!

The Kirby House is one of the last of the elegant homes of its era to survive. Many others were unfortunately lost in fires or were sadly demolished as useless relics of the past.

After a day of shopping in Saugatuck and Douglas' unique shops and galleries, bring your own glass of wine and enjoy a glass on the wrap-around porch as the sun sets. Or, relax on our large back deck while you take a dip in the heated in-ground pool and soothe your muscles in the whirlpool Jacuzzi.

"Detroit Magazine" stated the Kirby House is "probably the most hospitable inn" in the area. In June of 1998 Bob Talbert of "The Detroit Free Press" said in his column that The Kirby House is "a perfect bed and breakfast...loaded with charm..." an accolade that we endeavor to maintain. In the January 1999 issue of "Automobile Magazine", the Kirby House was featured as one of the places to stay when visiting Saugatuck and Douglas.

Breakfasts at the Kirby House are an event!

A candlelight gourmet breakfast is presented every morning served on fine china, crystal, and linens. True to our goal of helping you relax, our full breakfast starts at 10:00 a.m., so sleep in. For the early riser we have coffee, fruit, granola, and danish available at 8:30 a.m.

We have several common rooms available including use of our parlor, foyer, and butler pantry where you'll find a refrigerator, microwave, and cups and glasses available for guest use. All rooms are air-conditioned; Guest rooms have an iron and small ironing board; We suggest that you relax and sleep in, but all guest rooms do have alarm clock radios; an outdoor whirlpool Jacuzzi is available for all guests year round; an in-ground heated pool is open seasonally (April through September); Free use of bikes.

The house has been inspected and approved with Three Diamonds by AAA.

Please remember our Inn was built as a private residence in the "Queen Anne Style" architecture. We are not a hotel, which is something we are proud of. There are no long halls, no smell of chlorine, and you may even bump into another guest in the hall and say "hi."

Staying at the Kirby House is a true "bed and breakfast" experience.

Rates quoted are for 1 or 2 people. If more than two people per room, arrangements must be made prior to arrival as only certain rooms can accommodate more than two people.
