" OLYMPIC PENINSULA B&B -
WHIDBEY ISLAND/PUGET SOUND VIEW "

Elegant bed and breakfast in Port Townsend, Washington, on the Olympic Peninsula - with amazing Puget Sound views, close to the Whidbey Island ferry.

Gazing out over the sparking waters and snow capped mountains of Puget Sound, it is easy to understand why Francis James chose this premiere property of Port Townsend to build his exquisite Victorian mansion in 1889. Perched on a bluff, with a sweeping view of Port Townsend Bay, the romance and elegance of another era still lingers here.

The James House B&B was the first bed and breakfast in the Northwest, and continues today with its fine tradition of warmth and hospitality. There are eleven rooms available for rent, each with a queen bed and private bath. Every room is uniquely decorated with period antiques, and most have expansive water views. Fresh cookies are baked nightly, and sherry is available as an evening aperitif. Your stay also includes a full breakfast prepared by our trained, professional chef: a main entree, seasonal fruit, fresh baked scones or breads, juice and your choice of beverage.

The interior of the house reflects Mr. James' love of fine woods and his attention to detail. The staircase was hand carved from wild cherry logs brought around Cape Horn. The floors are individually cut pieces of cherry, oak, and walnut... pieced together into intricate parquet blocks. Most of the hardware and fixtures are in original condition.

You will find beautifully maintained parlors and guest rooms rich in history and charm, yet maintained with the modern amenities which discerning travelers have come to expect in a first class bed and breakfast inn.

The outside of The James House is as beautiful as the inside! From early spring until late fall, you can sit quietly enjoy beautiful perennial gardens as well as breathtaking water and mountain views. Whether enjoying your morning coffee, reading a favorite book, or sipping on a late afternoon cocktail, you will find that this is indeed, a very special place!
