Our Ottawa bed & breakfast home has maintained most of it's exterior details. The ginger bread running trim which looks to appear to be solid has carved surfaces and square inserts. The brick pattern on the front facade surrounding the second floor windows adds to the turn of the century details that were common at the time. The front step entrance to the porch is topped with a gabled roof. The porch posts frame the storm door which carries the look and feel of the wood work throughout the interior. The curved porch wraps around the front and left side of the house. The balustrades, posts, and filled design cornices create a typical Edwardian porch, which is great for relaxing, reading a book or enjoying the garden. The most lavishly appointed room in a Edwardian home was the drawing room, also known as the parlor. It was typical for this room to be spacious, with high ceilings, and other elaborate architectural features. The marble fireplace has survived over the years, but has gone through some structural changes and modernization improvements allowing it both functionality and safety. The ceiling in both the parlor and the entrance way remain home to three matching, original, chrystal chandeliers with fruit and floral ceramic medalions. These details in many turn of the century homes have been lost, damaged, or removed completely. The foyer features a handsomely carved dividing beam, finished at both ends with decorative sconces that were very typical for this era of home. The stairwell off of the foyer has also maintained it's original details. The solid butternut baluster, finials, and rail fittings are all in excellent condition considering their constant use over the years. There are lots of things to see and do in Ottawa, including:
