Set amidst aged trees and bountiful gardens this colorful Inn offers the comfort of vibrant guestrooms whose gracious appointments are inspired by a refreshing sense of tradition mixed with the unexpected. Modern amenities and time-burnished antiques, contemporary artwork and ancient artifacts all work to create an intimate refuge of balanced harmony.
A favorite destination for couples who enjoy sharing discoveries and special time together. It is no wonder that the Hawthorne Inn has been recognized by Forbes Magazine, “10 Best Inns of New England” and named by Boston Magazine, “Best of Boston”. Ever solicitous of our guests’ wellbeing, we offer abundant amenities and modern comforts to satisfy weary sojourners. Texture and color playfully commingle, artwork and artifacts amuse, the glow of antiques rest the soul and warm the heart. Many guest delight in the extensive collection of whimsical salt and pepper figurines and the many dramatic Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock prints on display.
Morning reveals a multi-course breakfast served around a convivial table featuring Innkeeper’s specialties. Plentiful food and friendship fortify for an exciting day of exploration.
Just 30 minutes from Boston, three rivers wend through a Colonial landscape of Minutemen’s fields where moss-covered walls embrace the homes of Hawthorne, Alcott, Thoreau and Emerson. On the road Patriots marched to confront British Troops and fire the “Shot heard ‘round the world”, the Inn, c.1870, provides an excellent base from which to uncover many treasures of the past and present.
There is much to experience in Concord. You may choose to saunter the woods by Walden Pond, picnic and swim the clear waters. Perhaps a few hours of kayaking the gentle river through the Great Meadows Wildlife Refuge is your way to unwind. It is always fun to shop our 17th century village for Antiques and Artisan-crafted goods. Artworks abound in the many museums and rolling lawn of the De Cordova Sculpture Park. You can visit the home of Little Women and the many Authors, where the Transcendentalists wrote and were inspired. It is easy to take a day-trip to Boston, Cambridge, Salem and close by scenic coastal towns and have time left over to witness the starry Concord sky and enjoy a delightful evening meal close to the Inn.
Or maybe you may choose to Simply, Simplify. Relax on a garden bench, pull a chair close to the fire, pet our dog or cat, jot a note in your journal and think an original thought. We look forward to meeting you at the Hawthorne Inn and to helping you make your stay with us memorable.
