WHERE YOU FEEL LIKE FAMILY "
Shinnston is just over six miles from I-79, but it's a world away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There are many things for visitors to do here - from extreme relaxation to high energy activities. In the summertime, you can snuggle up on the glider on our front porch with a good book and a tall glass of iced tea - choose from our selection of books on the second floor, and don't be afraid to "steal" one. In the wintertime, Grandma will bring you a cup of hot cocoa, coffee (from Kenya, Bolivia, Guatemala, Zimbabwe, Sumatra, Panama, India and more), or herbal tea (over 100 varieties available) to enjoy in our library or book nook in the Harris Room. If you'd rather get out and enjoy the great weather, try biking or hiking the West Fork River Rail-Trail. If you have your own horse, it's also a great place for a horseback ride. There are also a number of great walks available, over covered bridges and to the glass factory. Kathleen would love to help you plan the perfect day. Each morning, you'll wake up to the wonderful aroma of fresh baking - Kathleen makes wonderful homemade muffins, very low fat or fat-free (sugar-free also available) for a healthy, delicious breakfast. Each morning, she'll make a different breakfast at the time of your choosing (between 4 and 10 am), and she's happy to accommodate your special tastes and requirements, including Diabetic; Lactose Intolerant; Vegetarian; Vegan; Gluten-free; no Wheat or Dairy. Our collection of dolls by Margaret Panek are displayed in our dining room. The Lois Worcester Collection is shown throughout the house. Each of our guestrooms is on our second floor. The Gillum House Bed & Breakfast is a smoke free facility - if you smoke, you can use one our crystal ashtray on the porch. We welcome children, but they must be accompanied by at least one parent or guardian. Due to the allergies of your host, pets are not allowed. We offer packages that include dinner - please inquire when booking. Or go to Jimmy's Diner - it's like the restaurant version of "CHEERS". Or try Peking Chinese Restaurant or Pizza Express. The Gillum House is also an eco-friendly property - we're a particpant in the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection'a pilot program on Environmental Management Systems. Coming to West Virginia? Stay with us at Gillum House, your home away from home.
