IN HISTORIC SAVANNAH "
In the heart Historic Savannah's Victorian District, the Galloway House gives our guests a rare opportunity to experience what life in Historic Savannah was really like. The Galloway House is the only example of classical revival plantation mansion architecture in Historic Savannah open to guests visiting the city. Originally built in 1895 (before the advent of the income tax), Galloway House was once a single family home, with 81 windows, 36 doors, 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 3 chimneys a stable and servants quarters. Around the Great Depression, the home was split into two apartments, and later it was used as an office for an answering service, a storage facility, and then was empty and neglected for years. In March, 2005, the current owner, Keith, bought the home, and moved in with two Great Danes that he'd rescued. On that rainy night, there were seventeen leaks in the roof. Since then, the house has been fully restored and remodeled, from the foundation to the tops of the chimneys, with new plumbing, wiring, heating and a/c, tons of paint, and new landscaping. The owner lives on the 2nd floor with his now three Great Danes. Galloway House offers three private Savannah vacation rental apartments, each with its own separate entrance and fully equipped kitchen. The Galloway House is an owner-occupied vacation rental property, and we provide continental breakfast for each ofour guests, offering a self-catering bed and breakfast. The ground floor of the main house has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The two story carriiage house offers two 1-bedroom, 1-bath apartments. All the sheets are at least 400 thread count Egyptian cotton, and all the towels are biggest, thickest available. Each room offers high def television, wifi internet access and original oil paintings. The area is steeped in history. About 100 yards east of the house, you'll find the Georgia Infirmary, which old Savannah residents are proud to call the first 'negro hospital', which was used to house and care for the discarded slaves. The area Thomas Square Streetcar Historic District is named for Thomas Square Park, which lies near the center of the district, and the streetcar lines that made this neighborhood possible in the late 1880s. There are more than 1,100 historic residential, commercial and community buildings in the historical district, which is bordered by Anderson Lane on the north, Broad Street on the east, Victory Drive on the south and Montgomery Street on the west. Come stay at Galloway House, and learn how it felt to live in a Savannah Plantation Mansion.
