Not your normal Bed and Breakfast. The Five Continents is a reflection of the owners world travels and life experiences. Your host has visited or lived in five of the seven continents of the world, hence the name.
We are located just a 15 minute walk to the historic French Quarter or the Fairgrounds where the world famous New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is held. It is perfectly situated for a memorable visit to New Orleans.
The house is a Greek Revival Mansion done in the Italianate style. It preserves and radiates the atmosphere of the late 1800's with its original details such as 13 foot cove ceilings that terminate in a delicate plaster shell motif, ceiling rosettes and the original chandeliers in the both the parlors. There are eight fireplaces and hardwood floors.
The guest Suites are upstairs and are furnished with an eclectic collection of European and American antiques as well as reproduction pieces. Spacious rooms with 12 foot ceilings, oriental rugs, ceiling fans, air conditioning and cable TV. The bathrooms have antique claw-foot bathtubs outfitted with showers, thick, plush Egyptian cotton towels and Dorothy Prentice Aromatherapy Spa Amenities.
A two course hot gourmet breakfast is served by your host according to the guest's schedule, usually between 9:00 - 11:00 am in the formal dining room. Smoked Salmon Scrambles, Buckwheat and Pecan Waffles with a side of maple sausage, or Cajun Benedicts start your memorable stay each morning.
The European Suite is approximately 700 square feet of "Old World" charm. It has a fireplace in both the bedroom and the sitting room, a king size four poster cannonball bed, double French doors to your private balcony overlooking the Esplanade.
The Asian Suite is an eclectic blend of Asian artwork, Chinese Chin Sin rugs, European antique nightstands and a reproduction queen size brass and metal bed piled high with a down comforter and pillows. It has a fireplace in the bedroom, access to the rear gallery of the house overlooking the courtyard and a bathroom with an antique clawfoot bathtub outfitted with a shower as well as an antique watercloset.
The Eurasian Suite is set up as two bedrooms sharing a private bath with access to the rear gallery of the house overlooking the courtyard. An antique Turkish tapestry and Middle Eastern artwork adorn the walls as well as oriental carpets cover the highly polished heart of pine floors. It is perfect for two couples traveling together or a couple with Mom or Dad along. One bedroom has a highly carved 1890's Belgium antique full size bedroom suite, the other a 1920's Edward VIII full size bedroom suite that is a family heirloom. The bathroom is oversized and is decorated in the Neo-classical style with black, white and 24 karat gold tiles on the floor, a clawfoot bathtub outfitted with a shower, and an antique dressing table.
1 night room rate is charged at booking and is non-refundable.
Cancellation:
Cancellations must be made two weeks (14 days) prior to arrival date to avoid full charges for all nights booked. Special events require a one month (30 days) notice. No cash or credit refunds are given. Guest will be provided a certificate for a later date.
