Nestled inside one of six remaining Spanish revival courtyard buildings designed in the 1920’s by Arthur and Nina Zwebell, our one bedroom, one bath unit can comfortably accommodate up to 3 people. Its designer decorated 900 square feet also includes a living room, dining room, and a fully appointed kitchen. This 2-story living space has a graceful staircase, and its sunny interior is skillfully modeled in light with lunette, baroque and other varieties of window openings. Also included: original tile, ironwork & fixtures, exposed timber ceilings, a private patio with a view of the central courtyard, and a large wood-burning fireplace. These classic features are enhanced by such modern amenities as central air, designated parking, a home security system, in unit washer/dryer, and a high speed DSL internet connection.
The architecture of the central courtyard and entranceway to El Cabrillo is rustic and detailed like an old mission compound. No wonder that El Cabrillo is steeped in Hollywood history - one of the Talmadge sisters lived here, Hollywood lore connects the name of Cecil B. DeMille’s daughter with this building, and at least one of Rudolph Valentino’s films is alleged to have used it as a stage set. Not surprisingly, El Cabrillo is on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, “El Cabrillo” continues its history as an urban oasis offering a distinctly California lifestyle.
