Crystalwood Lodge is a featured premier birding site on TWO separate birding trails launched in 2003: The Klamath Basin Birding Trail and the Oregon Cascades Birding Trail. Birders have identified hundreds of species during the year, including the elusive Yellow Rails and a quite uncommon Least Flycatcher, seldom seen in Oregon. For those guests savoring winter pursuits, rest assured that winter recreation opportunities abound at Crystalwood Lodge, which is easily accessible via all-weather Westside Road from either Highways 140 or 97. Located in the heart of the groomed Winter Trail system in the Winema National Forest provides hundreds of miles of multi-use trails for snowshoeing, X-C skiing, snowmobiling, dogsledding, skijoring - the possibilities are nearly endless and the crowds are non-existent. Half-hour to day-long dog sled tour rides available daily by reservation for Lodge guests. Or take the short and scenic drive up to Crater Lake and enjoy the grandeur which is the park wrapped in snow - the South Park Entrance is open year-round and once you reach the Rim of Crater Lake, you have ample opportunity to snowshoe or cross-country ski along the Rim Drive, or just relax and enjoy the uncrowded beauty.
