The Coqui is a small frog native to Puerto Rico, which has been exported to zoos outside the islands, but it never survives long - legend has it that the coqui loves Puerto Rico so much that it just can't bear to leave.
You may feel the same after your stay with us here in San Juan. You'll hear the song of the Coqui every night thoughout the island, though you are unlikely to actually see these reclusive frogs.
Coqui del Mar is not a 5 STAR hotel, and you won't find a hotel atmosphere here - but you will find a taste of the real Puerto Rico here. Come live like a local in a guest house nestled into a beachside neighborhood, with personal yet unobtrusive service.
Most of our units include full kitchens, and we pride ourselves on personal service, clean rooms, and providing more than expected.
While you are staying at Coqui del Mar, you'll see first-hand how we work to provide an eco-friendly guest house. We offer recycling, utilize solar hot water heating, use a cistern to collect rainwater for outdoor watering, supplement room air conditioners with ceiling fans, and use green friendly cleaning products wherever possible. You will not find disposable mini soaps and shampoos with us - instead, we pffer larger in-shower dispensers. If you have any other idea how to reduce our impact on planet earth, please let us know.
You can mingle with other guests in our shared courtyard and barbeque area. There's a free washer/dryer on site, as well as an outdoor shower for after the beach. We also provide beach chairs, limited snorkel gear, coolers, boogie boards, board games and two bicycles for guest use.
We also work with a surfing, diving and kite boarding instructor who can meet you at Coqui del Mar for group or personalized lessons.
Our San Juan guesthouse is ideal for business travelers, budget minded persons, kite boarders, wind surfers, government employees, military, and gay and lesbian travelers coming to Puerto Rico
