Chevy Chase Beach Cabins are located on 7 acres above Discovery Bay, a few miles south of Port Townsend, Washington. Adjacent to the 18-hole Discovery Bay Golf Course, the cabins are part of an old and much-love resort complex that has been in operation—in various configurations--for over one hundred years. The atmosphere is casual and very comfortable. The large white house is our home, and not available to rent.

Chevy Chase offers distractions for the active—a shuffleboard court, bocce ball, horseshoes, a croquet course, a slightly decrepit but functional tennis court, and nearby golf—and respite for those in need of quiet contemplation. The private beach is great for clam digging, campfires, long walks, and naps in the sun.

Chevy Chase is located in the “banana belt.” This climatological phenomenon is created by prevailing winds and the Olympic mountains and benefits the guests at Chevy Chase with significantly lower annual rainfall than the rest of Puget Sound (About 1/3 less than Seattle). Just up the bay there is a hillside on which cactus grows.

Cabin 4 is the quintessential getaway. Its cliffside perch offers sweeping views from the living room and bedroom, as well as a private, cantilevered deck to watch the sun set over Discovery Bay and the Olympic Mountains. This completely refurbished cabin features a new kitchen, living room, and bathroom, and a queen-sized bed in a cozy wood-paneled bedroom.

Cabin 6 is a two-bedroom retreat at the head of the beach trail featuring a dramatic view of the bay and mountains. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living/dining/kitchen area open out onto a deck ideal for barbecuing, napping in the sun, or contemplating the vista. One bedroom with a queen-sized bed, another with two twin beds, and a daybed in the living room make this cabin idea for small families.

Cabin 7: This refurbished studio cottage features a garden view, a private bathroom with claw foot tub, queen-sized bed, and refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker. Simple and cozy,Cabin 7 is perfect for couples who want to explore the many attractions of the Olympic Peninsula or sneak away for a night or weekend of romance.

Meadow House: A 1920s farmhouse completely renovated in 1998, Meadow House is a serene retreat with bucolic views of a pasture, natural pond, classic red barn, and cherry, fir, and maple trees. This birdwatchers paradise features an open floor plan with central kitchen, dining area, living room and woodstove corner with rocker. Meadow House is a very short walk up the road from the rest of the cabins.

Getting Here From Seattle:

• Take the Bainbridge Island ferry from the downtown Seattle waterfront on Pier 52 (801 Alaskan Way).
• Follow Hwy 305 straight through Winslow and Poulsbo.
• Merge on to Hwy 3 North towards the Hood Canal Bridge.
• Cross the Hood Canal Bridge and about 5 miles after that you will see a sign for Chimacum/Port Townsend, Hwy 19.
• Take that right. Follow that road 10 miles and pass straight through Chimacum (not much to see—a cafe, school, etc).
• When you are just out of Chimacum you will see a Napa Auto Parts store and Carpet One on the right.
• Take the left immediately after Carpet One (Four Corners Road), and follow that road for a mile. (If you reach the airport you have missed the Four Corners Road turn.)
• Continue straight at the stop sign where you will see Four Corners Grocery and Gas (beer, bait, etc).
• At this point, the road turns in to South Discovery Road.
• Follow the road for about another mile and you will see a large white Victorian home on your left--3710 South Discovery Road.
• If you reach the golf course you've gone too far. Park in front of the big house.
