Carolina Bed & Breakfast celebrates the 102nd anniversary of the W. Vance Brown House designed in 1900 by Richard Sharp Smith, the architect who supervised the construction of the Biltmore House. With its pebbledash finish, unique rooflines and abundant porches, this Smith creation blends art and nature in the true Arts and Crafts tradition.
Our home is situated on a gently rolling one-acre lot in the Montford Historic District within walking distance of downtown Asheville. The Montford community is endowed with numerous restored homes from the turn of the century. Sitting on the spacious front porch, you can imagine the trolley cars and carriages rolling down one of the grandest avenues of its time. On the back porch, you will enjoy the gardens and water features we have created.
The six thousand square foot house has been lovingly restored with spacious common areas. The two parlors invite you to relax in the evening with fireplaces and numerous books and games for your enjoyment. All six spacious bedrooms have private baths, four-poster beds, air conditioning, televisions and four have working fireplaces. Enjoy the warmth of our quarter-sawed heart pine floors and richly detailed fireplaces that enhance the warm ambiance of our home.
We also offer a separate guest cottage recently remodeled with a private two person whirlpool tub, fireplace, king sized bed, day bed and kitchenette. Situated on ground level, our cottage is accessible for those who have difficulty climbing stairs. Additionally, the cottage is ideal for those parents with younger children.
Convenient access to the numerous local attractions (the Biltmore Estate, Blue Ridge Parkway, Grove Park Inn, downtown art galleries, Southern Highlands Handicrafts Guilds, Folk Art Center, Great Smoky Mountains, Thomas Wolfe Memorial, and Pack Place) facilitates an engaging, stimulating, yet leisurely stay. After a day full of sightseeing you will return to appreciate our relaxing swings, rocking chairs, gardens, and fish pond.
Our family readily welcomes you to our home. With multiple guest suite styles, you will find a room tailored specifically to your needs.
The Innkeepers are David Feinstein and Susan Birkholz. Coming from the Midwest, we have enjoyed settling in this fantastic town. Although not native to Asheville, we have sampled the city's recreational, cultural, and dining delites. We can guide you to a fun filled Asheville experience.
Our style is relaxed and friendly - our goal is to make you feel comfortable. We welcome you to our home.
