The house is owned and managed by myself (Robin!) and my partner Barry- when he's not hard at work running his own catering business!- oh and our lovely housekeeper Tracey- one of us will be here to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. From greeting you on arrival, helping you with useful advice on getting around and the best things to do and see whilst here, to serving (and cooking!) breakfast!
Ardmor House is situated in a quiet spot right in the city centre and very close to all of the gay life in the city - bars, pubs, clubs and cafes are within 7 - 10 minutes walking distance - and it seems even less on the way home from the pub!
There are eight things you have to do while you are here:
Take a walk up Calton Hill - best view of the city!
Have lunch at Harvey Nicols 4th Floor brasserie.
Dinner at Fisher's in Leith - best fish in Edinburgh.
Take a walk along the Water of Leith, and stop off at the Botanic Gardens, Dean Village and the Gallery of Modern Art and the Dean Gallery.
Visit in August for the biggest arts festival in the world.
Return over Christmas and New Year when the city hosts the biggest Hogmanay (New Year) party in the world!
Take some great food home - try Crombies for haggis, and Valvona and Crolla (top of Leith Walk) for amazing Italian deli food.
Take a city bus tour (leaving from Waverley Bridge) to get a flavour of the city.
Edinburgh gay life centers round the Broughton Street area and most places around here, if not gay, are certainly gay friendly. There are a number of gay venues nearby, including:
The Blue Moon Cafe - the oldest gay cafe in the city.
Nom De Plume- cosy and friendly gay cafe.
Habana - gay
friendly bar/cafe next to the Playhouse Theatre.
Planet- Gay bar with a young clubby crowd.
CC Blooms - the late night version!
The New Town Bar - more of a relaxed atmosphere for the middle youths!
Elbow - A 'local' pub with great food.
The Regent - Relaxed and chatty gay bar.
Number 18 - busy and long standing sauna.
Town House - newer of the two gay saunas.
We hope that you'll choose to come visit gay Edinburgh, and share some of your time with us at the Ardmor House!
