With 437 Magnolia House as a home base, the rest of the island - from Isabel Secunda with its fort and lighthouse to Mosquito Pier for snorkeling to "undiscovered beaches" that you'll find - is easily accessible.
Sprinkled within the neighborhood are "colmadoes" (grocery stores) and the best bakery on the island, La Dulce Esperanza. There are also several churches, a baseball field and a park in close proximity to Magnolia House. Four blocks down the hill is the Malecon (brick boardwalk) which separates the Caribbean from shops and a variety of restaurants overlooking the snug harbor. Snorkeling is good off Esperanza's pier. Kayaks are for rent at the boat launch. Sun Bay, public and well-maintained with life guards and a café, is a 10 minute drive. Red Beach in Camp Garcia, a beautiful half-moon of sand with red-roofed picnic pavilions, is outstanding and worth packing a cooler for a lovely day. A night tour of the Bioluminescent Bay is a must-do either by kayak or electric boat. The starting point for both is Esperanza.
